The Roll Pack Story

Learn about the Roll Pack system which is a modular wheel system that makes any cardboard box into a travel case.

An Introduction

Hey there! My name is Benjamin Rivera. I live on the Olympic Peninsula with my wife and baby girl in the great state of Washington. I enjoy mountain and gravel bike riding just about anywhere I can. Bikepacking is kinda my thing. I enjoy exploring the state and traveling for bikepacking trips.

Roll Pack was born on a bikepacking trip to Catalina Island in California.

The journey

In February of 2025, I was able to join a bikepacking trip hosted by a local shop (shout out to Sequim Bike Studio!) to the beautiful Island of Catalina in California. It was a blast! Like most of us, I got a cardboard box from the shop and loaded up my bike, making sure to bring my extra roll of duct tape for the return journey. All my friends had the expensive rolling boxes while I was stuck dragging my box through the airport. I thought to myself, "Why can't my cardboard box roll just like theirs?"

That was the moment that Roll Pack was born.

The roll pack

That question stayed in my head for months. Since I have experience with CAD design, I started executing the vision. The Roll Pack systems you see on this site are the products of months of testing and design, consulting friends much smarter than me, and traveling to discover their limits. I am proud to say it is a pleasure to use and I look forward to seeing how it is used in your next adventure.

The Nomad turns a standard cardboard bike box into a smooth‑rolling travel case for one‑way, ditch‑the‑box bikepacking adventures.

Today and beyond

I started Trail Borne Gear to share my adventure tools and inventions with the world. I look forward to the memories we will share together and the great feedback you will all be sure to have. Future developments and products are sure to come.

Thank you for being a part of this adventuring journey with me!
